On March 28, 2017, Dr. Harley Seyedin and Elon Musk won the 2017 Oslo Business for Peace Award. The selection was made by an independent committee of Nobel Prize winners in Peace and Economics in closed-door meetings. The Committee chose the recipients from a pool of nominees from over 40 countries put forward by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

Each Year, the Business for Peace Award is presented at the end of a two-day celebration entitled “Business for Peace Summit” in May in Oslo, Norway. The ceremony takes place in Oslo City Hall, the same location as that of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. In addition to a Welcome Reception and Gala Dinner, hosted by HRH Crown Prince Haakon and HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit, the Summit also hosts the Business for Peace Roundtable. Some of the confirmed speakers are Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Adam Grant (Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania), Brett Wigdortz (Teach First), George Serafeim (Harvard), Martin Sandbu (Financial Times) and William MacAskill (Oxford).

Dr. Harley Seyedin was among 228 individuals from around the world to have been nominated and subsequently shortlisted in March 2016 by the Nobel Committee for consideration for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize. Other individuals considered include Pope Francis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Columbian President Juan Manuel Santos who was ultimately awarded the prize on October 7, 2016.

Dr. Harley Seyedin is the most recent recipient of the "Peace through Commerce Medal" originally initiated by Thomas Jefferson in 1790 when he was the first Secretary of State of the United States. Harley is among less than 20 individuals to receive this Medal in the 227 years since its inception. This Medal is the highest honor awarded to an individual by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

On March 12, 2018 Dr. Harley Seyedin was appointed a Visiting Scholar at China’s Jinan University – one of the oldest universities established on mainland China tracing back to the Qing dynasty (1644–1911).

Harley Seyedin is the President of Allelon Energy Partners. Allelon Energy Partners is involved in the development, construction and operation of new energy and power projects internationally. Partners of Allelon Energy have more than 150 years of combined experience in international development, construction and operation of energy and power projects with billions of US dollars in projects completed in their various positions during their long careers. Immediately prior to his position at Allelon Energy Partners, Harley held the position of President of Sithe Global Pacific (Its parent, Sithe global is a multi-national company with billions of USD in power and energy projects under development worldwide). Harley is also President of American Chamber of Commerce in South China. Under his direction since 1991, the company achieved firsts in many areas in China, including: the first majority western owned power plant; first western invested toll road; and first US accredited joint university. In 1991 President George Bush recognized Mr. Seyedin for his involvement with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Appointed by three governors of the State of Maryland to four terms of office he served as Chairman of Montgomery College and State Chairman of the Maryland Association of Community College Trustees representing all seventeen colleges in the State. He served on the Board of Directors of the Kennedy Institute, by appointment of Cardinal James A. Hickey. He was a recipient of an award in business from the US Department of Commerce. He received recognition from The US Senate Sergeant At Arms for his service to the US Senate Deliberations. He served two terms on the Maryland Advisory Board of the United States Civil Rights Commission.

From 2010 to 2018 Harley served as Vice Chairman for U.S.-China Economic and Trade Policy of the Asia Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce.

I have been serving as Vice President of AmCham in South China since 2006, before that as Governor from 2003, and have always been an active member in supporting various events organized by AmCham in South China.  I strongly believe that AmCham plays a very positive role in promoting trade, commerce and investment between the US and China, especially in South China.

I am the Vice President of Finance - Greater China Region of Amway Corporation at present.  I have been working and living in Guangzhou for more than 20 years and have a deep insight into this city.  As the largest direct selling company in the world, Amway has been a strong promoter of Sino-US trade relationship.  Both its Chairman and President have tested in front of the Congress to support PNTR and China's entry to WTO.  Amway China, one of the Top 500 largest MNCs in China, has always been a devoted member of AmCham in the past years, and has actively sponsored and taken part in meetings, seminars and other programs organized by AmCham in South China.  This is also in line with our company's mission to promote Sino-US bilateral relationship and free trade between the two countries. 

It is an honor for me to be on the Board of Governors from 2003 to 2005, and serve as the Vice President from 2006 to 2017.  I would also like to thank your continuous supports for AmCham in South China and me.  With my professional background in Finance, wide experience of managing business in China, and my passion as well, I will continue contributing my experience and services to all the member companies and AmCham in South China.

Royal Service group has been established in China since 1995 expanding its operation to Shanghai, Xiamen, and Beijing and now Asia Pacific. Royal will continue to promote energy efficient Air Conditioning building design as it continues positive business growth. Tom's position as the group director; Oversee International business and systems operation for China. Royal group includes Royal industries manufacturing, Royal Project group and services Asia Pacific and the USA markets. Tom has served on the Board of Directors since 2002 and as an officer of the board serving as Secretary since 2004.

Royal group promotes American engineering and product throughout Asia Pacific. He has enjoyed working with the American chamber of commerce servicing not only large businesses but small and Medium sized business. In this challengingly market places we on the board will promote AmCham companies to help enterprise a positive result.

I like to thank the members for their participations in our programs in the past year. In the coming year China outlook on country and it's environment should be positive as energy sources allocations are addressed. Mr. Tim Wen, with rich experience on multi-industry, including bank, IT, catering, personal service etc., is the member of board of directors of several non-profit organizations in America, with over 20 years' experience on trade and investment between China and America. Mr. Wen has been invited to be the director of China Chamber of International Commerce Guangzhou Branch and the senior consultant of Fuzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce and Bureau of Merchants. Mr. Wen has been devoted to the mutual development of the middle and small-sized enterprises from China and America, and has introduced about 100 American enterprises to invest in China, with a total investment amount of $100,000,000. Mr. Wen won the recognition from the governments and associations in China and America repeatedly, and in 2011 was awarded the Special Award of Merit by the US Department of Commerce for his distinguished contribution.

Governor Dr. David Buxbaum

David C Buxbaum, born 16 July 1933 in New York. Mr Buxbaum left academic life where he taught law, including Chinese law, to join the law firm of Anderson, Mori and Rabinowitz as a junior partner in 1968. There he worked primarily on joint ventures for American companies in Japan and on Hong Kong legal matters. In 1970, Mr Buxbaum formed a predecessor of the firm, Anderson & Anderson LLP's international division, and has been primarily resident in Asia for the past fifty-four years, and in China and Mongolia for most of the past forty-five years.

Mr Buxbaum is fluent in both oral and written Chinese. He was the first American lawyer invited to China to represent American business interests in 1972, after President Nixon's historic visit. He founded the first American law office in Guangzhou (Canton). Subsequently, he helped open offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu and Mongolia and closely affiliated offices in Bombay, India, Taiwan. Mr Buxbaum is a well regarded expert on private international, US laws, Chinese law and Mongolian law who, in addition to being an experienced and highly respected practitioner, has also published extensively in the legal field.

In addition to international transactional matters, Mr Buxbaum, is also professionally active in litigation, particularly regarding international business disputes, as well as intellectual property and commodities and securities matters. He represented the successful respondents before the United States Supreme Court in the landmark case of Butz v Economou and successfully handled one of the leading IP cases in China, namely Microsoft vs Juren.


Governor Dr. Joe Chow

Joe is a managing director of both Duff & Phelps and DP International Appraisal Limited, who leads the valuation services for China requirements such as tax filing, financial reporting, state-owned enterprises related transactions, joint ventures, initial public offering, etc. for both multinational and Chinese domestic clients. He is responsible for financial consulting services and business development in relation to multinational corporations' inbound investments and Chinese enterprises' foreign listings and acquisitions. Joe has successfully served many multinational companies and Chinese domestic companies with valuation, and consulting services for merger and acquisition, stock listing, due diligence, financial reporting, joint venture and other purposes. 

Joe had been a part-time professor at Peking University and the tutor of a master program of Valuation at Zhongnan University of Economics and law. He has been often invited to speak for the Chinese government and governmental/regulatory authorities, chambers of commerce, professional bodies, stock exchanges, and media organizations. Joe is also active in the international and Chinese business communities. Joe had served as the Co-Chair of IPR Committee of American Chamber of Commerce in South China and has been the Governor of American Chamber of Commerce in South China since 2003. In Jan 2012, Joe was awarded a certificate by the U.S. Department of Commerce for his contribution to Sino-US trade.

Governor Robert Chu

Mr. Robert Chu is currently the Managing Director, at FedEx China. In this role, he is responsible for FedEx Northern & Southern China Operation business. His role is to plan, organize, direct and control the development and implementation of operational tactics and strategies for operation. His scopes of work also require him to train, select, direct and oversee operation in the regions. Prior to assuming his current duties, Robert was served as Managing Director for Southern China from January 2007 - May 2009.

Robert has been working and living in Guangzhou for over 10 years and have a deep insight & tight into the city. He was actively participated in the planning and launching the FedEx Asia-Pacific Hub in 2009 by relocating the Hub from Subic Bay, Philippine to Guangzhou. As the Managing Director for FedEx China, Robert has been actively participating in meeting and seminars organized by AmCham South China to promote US & China bilateral relationship and support global trading.

Robert has been with FedEx over 20 years and started his carrier at Oakland, California. He has extensive experience in USA and Hong Kong, and is currently based at Guangzhou, China.


Governor Dr. David Hon

The Dahon Group, including four companies in the U.S., Taiwan, China and Macao, is world renowned for being a pioneer in high-tech bicycle products. The Group has been awarded many prestigious international awards, including the "National Invention Achievement Award" of Taiwan, and has been mentioned in the "Guinness Book of World Records". Before forming the Dahon Group, Dr. Hon was an assistant professor of physics at Cal Poly and USC, and Sr. Physicist and Management at Hughes Aircraft Labs, Malibu, CA. After finishing high school in H.K., he received his B.A. in Physics from U.C., Berkeley, and PH. D .in Physics from U. of Southern California. Dr. Hon holds over 100 patents.

Edouard began his career with Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1998 in Paris, straight out of his National Service where he served as an Officer in the French Navy. In 2000, he transitioned to Mead Johnson and moved from Paris to the United States (Evansville, Indiana) to become the Sr. Financial Analyst for the Global Business Support function. In 2003, he accepted the Latin America Supply Chain Plant Controller position and relocated to Mexico. In 2005, he was promoted to Finance Director of the Philippines business. This was his first Finance Director role. In 2010, Edouard returned to the United States (Chicago, Illinois) to be the Finance Director of the United States business. In 2013, his role was expanded to North America. In 2015, he took the corporate Global FP&A role. A global career without a China experience wouldn't have been fully complete so in July 2016, he moved back to Asia to take the Greater China CFO role.

Tom is currently the Finance Director for Procter & Gamble China Sales where his responsibilities include strategy development, business planning, and stewardship for P&G’s go-to-market activities across mainland China.  Prior to moving to Guangzhou in 2014, he worked for P&G for 19 years with increasing levels of responsibility across various roles in commercial, supply chain, and corporate finance.  Tom attended Ohio State University where he graduated with honors in accounting, and he holds active licenses as a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, and Certified Internal Auditor.  In addition to his professional experience, Tom has served in various non-profit organizations in the US as a board member and/or volunteer.

Joe has been a key member of the South China business community and AmCham member since 2007, holding management roles in both multinational and SME companies operating in China. In addition to serving as an AmCham Representative, in 2015, Joe was appointed as Chairman of the AmCham South China's Texas-China Investment Delegation Organizing Committee, tasked with promoting bilateral trade between Texas and China. Joe is also Co-Chair of the Legal and Policy Committee of AmCham South China.

Joe currently Serves as Managing Director of GreenPro Capital Group (NASDAQ: GRNQ) a US listed multinational financial services company headquartered in Hong Kong with offices in Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Bangkok, Singapore, Brisbane, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
With more than 30 years of experience in the finance industry, GreenPro focuses on Corporate Advisory, Venture capital, Trust Asset Protection, Fund asset management and Wealth Management. GreenPro has grown from a small accounting firm over ten years and has become an expert in cross-border listing, tax planning and corporate restructuring to serve its regional clients.

Prior to joining GreenPro, Joe served as Associate Director of a multi-national financial services firm enabling companies to operate their corporate structures, finance vehicles and investment funds globally. In addition to working closely with investment funds and high-net worth individuals, Joe lead the Pearl River delta regions commercial direction, providing solutions and compliance for companies investing in China and Chinese outbound investment.

Joe also has a solid legal background, working with leading PRC law firm, Wang Jing & Co. assisting foreign clients with legal issues in China. Joe developed and managed legal projects in coordination with Chinese lawyers to drive to completion corporate investment transactions including; liquidation, employment, intellectual property protection/enforcement, commercial negotiations and dispute resolution. Joe has acted on behalf of various foreign investments in Guangdong province to create legal entities and to advise on operating in South China.

In 2011, Joe served as Project Manager of an international consortium, including the Hamburg Port Training Institution (HPTI) and a prominent German Transportation firm, with the backing of a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The consortium advised the Hunan Provincial Department of Transport\Hunan Water Transportation Construction & Investment Group (HWTCIG), on an inland transportation infrastructure project; the Hunan Xianjiang Inland Waterway Project valued at 300Billion RMB. The consortium acted as both legal and institutional experts to provide an analysis of the project's feasibility.

Joe is a natural connector and communicator with a strong business acumen and the ability to navigate the legal and tax landscape that companies face when doing business in China. Joe has cultivated and maintained extensive relationships with the foreign consulates and various chambers of commerce and is a regular presenter and contributor to publications on issues regarding the business environment in China.




Governor Andy Rusie

Andy worked for Ernst & Young as a Senior Auditor from 1996 to 2001. Then he first joined Mead Johnson in 2002 as an MBA finance intern in Asia regional office in Bangkok. He came to work full time for MJN in 2003 and held various global roles based in Mead Johnson's Global Headquarters from 2003-2005. In late 2005, Andy was promoted to Finance Director, Latin America Supply Chain based in Delicias, Mexico. In 2007 Andy was appointed to be the Finance Director for MJN's Malaysia/Singapore business based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Andy then served as the General Manager for Abbott Nutrition's business in Indonesia beginning in 2010 before returning to Mead Johnson as the Europe Finance Director in 2011. He was promoted to Vice President Finance, Greater China of Mead Johnson Nutrition in February 2013. He served in this role until June 2016 when he moved to Chicago to assume the role of VP Finance Commercial Operations & FP&A in June 2016. Subsequent to Reckitt Benckiser's acquisition of Mead Johnson Nutrition in June 2017, Andy was promoted to Senior Vice President Finance, Infant and Children's Nutrition division. Andy joined BWAY Corporation in 2018 as the VP of FP&A, M&A, and Investor Relations.

Born and raised in Indiana, U.S.A, Andy received his MBA from Indiana University in 2003 and an undergraduate degree from Miami University (OH) in 1996. Andy obtained his U.S. CPA license in 1996.


Governor Tim Shaver

Tim has served as the Club Manager of Plaza Golf Club since September 2011 after serving as their Director of Operations from 1999-2002. Harbour Plaza Golf Club, a 27-Hole Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed championship golf course is the centerpiece of Cheung Kong Property Groups premier residential community in Dongguan, Laguna Verona.

Tim served as the Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce, South China from 2002-2006 during which, Amcham became the fastest growing chamber in the world. Tim has also served on the Amcham Board of Governors since 2010 and is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with Bachelor of Arts in History as well as being a member of the Professional Golfers Association of America since 1989.

"I am truly honored to have been selected with the opportunity of continuing to serve Amcham-South China. Amcham has been the major focus of life since 2002 serving as Executive Director from 2002-2006, and continuing as a member from 2007 to 2012 and for the past three years a member of the Board of Governors. During this timeframe, Amcham, South China has grown from 200 members to over 2300 today. Amcham South China has become the voice of the business community to both the Chinese and US Governments as well as helping countless American companies relocate into South China. With the recent activities of the Amcham Charity Series, Amcham South China continues to set the standard in which the business community can be proud. If chosen, I will proudly serve the membership of the American Chamber of Commerce South China and continue to promote Amcham as the model business chamber in China."
